Staying active during the holidays always seems impossible and were all guilty of letting the holidays get in the way of our goals. It’s easy to say “I’ll get back on track for the new year”. But what if you could continue your progress throughout the holidays, and not lose that time. There’s no denying that the holidays are a busy time of year and our schedules are fuller than were used to. So we just have to get creative with our time and navigate the holiday obstacles.

5 Tips To Help You Stay Active During The Holidays

Schedule your workout time

You schedule everything else during the holidays, like when you’ll go shopping, when your kids christmas pageant is, and when your 6 dinner events take place. Why not schedule that 30 minute slot with yourself? Having your workout on your schedule could be the difference between getting it done and blowing it off. If you’re anything like me as soon as a set a date with myself I do not miss it.

Increase your daily steps

Simple but effective! Make small changes throughout your day to increase your daily steps. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator. Park further away, don’t always go for the closest spot, you’ll be amazed how much it adds up, and also your car wont get as dinged up with the holiday rush. Step away from your computer during the day to take a 10 minute walk.

Get active with your friends (or family!)

Plan an outing with your friends that gets you all active together. Hitting the slopes and going skiing/snowboarding is the perfect way to get active while enjoying that crisp winter weather. Go to a fitness class together, like cycling, hot yoga, pilates or even a boot camp for the whole holiday season. Sometimes getting other people involved is what it takes to stay on track! Accountability is great!

Get sleep and stay hydrated

Between the stress and the busyness of the holidays, I know we’re all struggling with getting the right amount of sleep. Being sure to still get good sleep is important to staying on track. When you sleep good you feel good, and when you feel good you get your workout in 😉

Another important factor with feeling good, is making sure you’re staying hydrated! It sounds so cliche, because we all know we need to drink water. But when you’re spending every weekend drinking wine with your family at all the holiday parties, it’s essential that you make your water intake a #1 priority. I find when I get a new water bottle I drink a ton more water, I love using a cute holiday themed water bottle for the season. Swig nailed this girly western christmas cup!

These small attainable goals are also a bit of a snowball effect, you make a couple good decisions and you’re bound to stay on that course throughout the day.

Holiday themed 5K

I love a good holiday 5k! Staying active during the holidays doesn’t need to just include your usual activity! Switch it up with a fun 5k or 10k. There are so many during the holiday season that have fun themes, turkey trots and santa runs galore. It’s a fun goal to work towards that will keep you motivated through the season. I definitely suggest getting your friends involved! I did a turkey trot with a few of my friends and we all had a blast. We brought our favorite mini bottles to celebrate after. Definitely recommend.

Staying active during the holidays is tricky but something that you can totally handle! It just takes a little planning to get around those obstacles. Looking for more tips to stay on track this holiday season? Check out my tips to staying on track with your nutrition!
